18000 1951 Swindon
Peter Kerslake says "18000 had suffered a serious fire in its heat exchanger after arrival at Bristol Temple Meads with the 7.30.a.m from Paddington on 29th May 1951. This took 18000 out of service for three months and it looks as though it has been repaired and is ready to re-enter service on 20th August, 1951. Note that the roof mounted steam whistle has now been removed with the mounting stud visible."
