5057 1959 Westerleigh

An unusual angle of shot for a moving train

5057 , " Earl Waldegrave " had , in 1964 been one of the best eight remaining members of the " Castle " class selected to take part in the " City of Truro Commemorative Special " which ran from Paddington to Plymouth and back on the 9th . May , 1964 .
Although placed second in the list following a series of earlier evaluation and test runs between Paddington and Worcester 5057 was unfortunately taken off the list due to suffering from cracked cylinder liners before event and did not , therefore , take part the actual series of runs on the day in question.
This engine was transferred from Bristol Bath Road to Banbury in November of 1959 and later to Old Oak Common in April of 1960 , being withdrawn from there in March , 1964.
