5057 1960c Bradford on Avon
Shown as being taken circa 1960 this picture of 5057 , "Earl Waldegrave" is unusual in that the "Castle" is relegated to working a Class H 'Through freight or ballast train not running under class "C", "D", "E" or "F" headcode'.
A few years previously 5057 was one of Laira shed's finest, working West of England express passenger duties between Plymouth and Paddington , and also running Westwards down to Penzance, before being displaced by the early Diesel arrivals on the West of England main line.
The shedcode is 81A Old Oak Common and the engine was re-allocated there in March 1960 for its last 3 years of service.
