5001 1960-08-14 Teignmouth
On a dull 14th August 1960 (a poor summer it was, all over the country) ‘Castle’ No 5001 ‘Llandovery Castle sets out from Teignmouth, next stop being Exeter St Davids. It’s unusual for there to be no identification board on the smokebox door so the train’s origin and destination will remain forever unknown. What we do know is that No 5001 built in 1926 was withdrawn from service in February 1963.
