5001 1961 Plymouth North Road

5001 1961 Plymouth North Road

A gleaming Old Oak Castle with a what looks like a fully coaled tender

Plenty of coal left in the tender of 5001 " Llandovery Castle " despite her having worked down to here at Plymouth almost certainly from Paddington , the engine's reversing lever confirming that she is now backing out tender first , having arrived here at Plymouth's North Road station , to Laira Depot and the " C " of the new style Reporting Number showing her Plymouth destination.
That lane on the right had provided for countless years past a splendid viewing point for enthusiasts to see and record all that was going on in and around the station , and it still does so today , the area today remaining very much the same as in this view with the houses and bridge in the background unchanged .
5001 had moved to Old Oak Common from Shrewsbury Depot in August of 1960 , being withdrawn from Old Oak in February , 1963.
