5001 1958-06-28 Bath
With a nice selection of old wooden bodied pre-grouping coaches behind the tender.
Peter Kerslake says "This very low angle image doesn't really do justice to this location which was so favoured by the renowned photographer George Heiron who somehow managed to record some memorable and published photographs from a much higher level here , possibly from the upper windows of the " Royal Sailor " hotel which is out of sight to the right of this image.
5001 , " Llandovery Castle " is heading the down " Merchant Venturer " , the 11. 15 a.m. from Paddington due into Bristol Temple Meads at 1.28.p.m. and has made its only stop on its run to Bristol here at Bath Spa with a booked return back to Paddington later that afternoon from Temple Meads on the 4 .15.p.m. " Bristolian " .
Thie image is dated from June of 1958 and my records show that 5001 had been at Cardiff Canton in earlier years , being reshedded to Shrewsbury in 1959 before going to Old Oak Common in August of 1960 and being condemned from there in February of 1963."
