Ex-Great Western Railway Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No. 5017 'The Gloucestershire Regiment 28th 61st'. Built at Swindon in July 1922 and named 'St. Donat's Castle' until April 1954. Withdrawn in September 1962.
It would be difficult to find a space for that enormous nameplate on any wall in my house! There is an instruction to "weld" chalked above 5017's 'elbow' outside steam pipe. I wonder if that was all that was required on this November 1954 works visit?
