Ex-GWR Collett 'Castle' 5024 'Carew Castle' hurriedly approaches Cowley Bridge Junction in the 1950s with 'The Devonian' from Paignton to Bradford Forster Square. Meanwhile, a van load of McDougall's flour passes by overhead! 'For interest, 'The 'Devonian's' inaugural run was on 26 September 1927.

Peter Kerslake adds "Newton Abbot's 5024 "Carew Castle" will work the Bradford bound "Devonian" as far as Bristol Temple Meads, handing over to a Midland Region engine there, probably a "Jubilee", and this view is doubtless from the mid 'fifties when there were nine "Castles" at Newton Abbot.
The Southern Region's line to North Devon and Plymouth is just visible branching off on the right, that line running over the river Exe at this point, a notorious location for severe flooding in the wet weather season!"
