Ex-Great Western Railway Collett 'Castle' class 4-6-0 No. 5011 'Tintagel Castle'. Built at Swindon in July 1927 and withdrawn in Sept. 1962. This fine July 1957 panorama at Totnes Station sees 'Tintagel Castle' with the down 'Cornishman' express.
Peter Kerslake adds "The load of eight coaches was the maximum for an unassisted Castle over the banks to Plymouth so there is no pilot engine and it is on the Down through line here at Totnes, so wasn't stopping!"
