2009 1880s Taunton
From a recently acquired contemporary album, this marvelous circa 1880 photograph at Taunton in Somerset, was taken in the era of mixed broad and standard gauges. This is an ex-Bristol & Exeter Railway broad gauge 4-2-2 as amalgamated into GWR stock in January 1876. It has received some modifications by the new owners, in particular the full cab replacing a basic weather board. It was built by Stothert & Slaughter (later Avonside) of Bristol in 1849 as B&ER No. 10 and was withdrawn circa 1888.
Wonderful!
