2001 1880 Where?

2001 1880 Where?

Photographs of GWR 'Broad Gauge' locomotives are not commonplace. This fascinating circa 1880 view at an unknown station, shows GWR 2001, one of the 1849-built Bristol & Exeter Railway 4-2-4 locomotives that had been absorbed into GWR stock in 1877. George Armstrong had this class rebuilt at Swindon to the form seen here as a 4-2-2.
