Great Western Railway-designed Hawksworth '16xx' 0-6-0PT 1657 is brand new and awaiting its allocation (to Hereford 85C) at Swindon Works having been built in January 1955. Sadly. the need for locomotives like this was diminishing acros the entire railway system and 1657 only had a nine year life until withdrawal in November 1964. Photo dated February 1955.
