Peter Kerslake says "A splendid 1937 photograph of 6006, "King George I", doubtless obtained by means of a heavy plate glass negative camera with the photographer having expertly managed to include all nine coaches in the formation and a nice clear exhaust lifting well away from the train.
Built in March 1928 "King George I" made a series of moves between Plymouth's Laira Depot engine and Old Oak Common for two years before settling down in August 1930 to a 32 year stay at Wolverhampton's Stafford Road from where it was the first "King"to be condemned in February 1962. Note the original style of smoothed casing over the inside cylinder block together with the original design of steam pipes and the footstep on the smokebox door, all later changed as the years passed."
