6006 1939-09-10 Leamington Spa

Rather a strange Reporting Number here on 6006 " King George I " with no leading digit, and " 77 " is unusually high, but it's way back in 1939 and this may have been a special working of some kind.
Apart from its first two years spent at Old Oak and Laira 6006 was a Wolverhampton Stafford Road based engine from the summer 1930 but had the sad distinction of being the first " King " to be condemned whilst there in February 1962 and had been one of the sixteen not fitted with new front frames during its working lifetime.
Although still retaining its original design of rounded inside valve chest casing in this view the upper lamp bracket has already been lowered and the footstep accordingly been removed.
