6006 1937-07-15 Paddington

GWR King 4-6-0 No 6006 King George I 7.10pm Birmingham express at Paddington on 15 July 1937. The tender livery is interesting as it has not received the 1934 introduced 'Roundel' retaining the 'Great (crest) Western' style.

Peter Kerslake says "Poor old 6006 would have the unhappy distinction of being the very first of its class to be withdrawn when it was condemned from Wolverhampton Stafford Road in February of 1962 and disposed of at Swindon's infamous "C" Shop just two months later .
The original smoothed design of inside valve casing is clear to see in this view and the engine has lost one of its valve covers somewhere along the way! "
