6006 1945-08 Bentley Heath
A wartime image with a work stained 6006, " King George I " on the Paddington to Birmingham main line and a formidable load behind its tender so typical of such workings in those difficult days.
There weren't many cleaners still working in those wartime years, and engines suffered as a consequence with 6006 being allocated to Wolverhampton's Stafford Road at that time and for virtually the whole of its working life.
6006 had the unhappy distinction of being the first " King " to be condemned in February 1962, some ten months or so before the last of the class ended their days at the end of that year.
