6011 1960s Wednesbury

6011 1960s Wednesbury

6011 left Stafford Road for OOC in Oct 1962
An impressive shot of 6011, " King James I " at Wednesbury, working one of the Paddington to Birmingham and Wolverhampton expresses upon which this particular engine appeared regularly in the ' fifties and ' sixties.
Peter Kerslake only recorded this engine once down in Plymouth in the ' fifties, and it was indeed a " rare bird " that far West, its appearance on that day probably being as the result of a last minute rostering at Old Oak to a Plymouth express, possibly as the result of a late failure on shed.
The background in this image is interesting, and I wonder what was on that land in days past ?
6011 was withdrawn in December 1962, being disposed of in Swindon's " C " shop but not until January, 1964 as they didn't rush to cut up the " Kings " at Swindon !
