6018 1950s Fenny Compton near Leamington Spa
Steve Banks says "I believe this is at Holmes Park Farm, a popular spot to this day and which I have visited. It's well north of Banbury on the way to Leamington Spa - about 3 miles N of Fenny Compton."
What a splendid shot of 6018, " King Henry VI " on the Cambrian Coast Express in a delightfully rural setting, still with the original syle of inside valve spindle covers indicating that it has not, and, in fact, did not receive new front frames, as not all the class did so.
6018 had a few claims to fame in that it took part in the 1948 Locomotive Exchanges, worked the down Jubilee " Cornish Riviera " to Plymouth from Paddington on 1st. July, 1954, was the " King " on the S.L.S. Special of 28th. April, 1963 and very nearly ended up at a Butlins Holiday Camp.
It also had the distinction of being withdrawn twice, once on 31st. December 1962 and again following the Special in late 1963
