92220 1960-03-26 Cardiff Canton

BR Standard class 9F 2-10-0 No 92220 Evening Star at Cardiff Canton shed on March 26, 1960.

Peter Kerslake says "In sparkling condition and just eight days following its naming ceremony at Swindon Works "Evening Star" is recorded here at its first home at Cardiff Canton M.P.D. where it remained until 1962 when it was drafted to Bath Green Park for use on the heavily loaded passenger workings on the Somerset and Dorset that Summer, supplementing the Standard "9F's" already on that line since 1960.
With Canton having closed to steam in September 1962 "Evening Star", following a brief spell at Old Oak Common and Oxford, was sent back to Wales in 1963 but now to Cardiff East Dock shed where it remained until March of 1965, being withdrawn following an accident whilst on shed but subsequently being saved for preservation and overhauled at Crewe in 1967."
