92220 1960 Old Oak Common

Newly built by the boys at Swindon , and resplendent here in their fully lined out green livery , 92220 entered service in March of 1960 from Cardiff Canton where , in addition to freight duties it sometimes appeared in place of the customary Canton Britannia on Top Link passenger rosters between Cardiff and Paddington , including the Red Dragon . Just before Canton closed to steam in late September of 1962 Evening Star joined others of her class on the Somerset and Dorset line in an effort to reduce the number of Double Headed workings on the heavily loaded through passenger services southwards from Bath down to the South Coast , 92220 working the last Pines Express over that route on the 8th . September , 1962 . Her last years in service were from Cardiff East Dock , from where she was condemned in Marchof 1965
