Peter Kerslake says "Shown as being from May of 1963 this view has 92220 " Evening Star " at Banbury and if that date is correct the photograph would have been very soon after the engine left the Somerset and Dorset and her temporary home at Bath Green Park M.P.D. following her two years working passenger rosters, including the last "Pines Express", across the Mendips between Bath and the south.
Following the end of the 1962 Summer timetable "Evening Star" was reduced to working secondary passenger duties on the S.& D. before going back to Cardiff but now to East Dock depot in 1963, her previous home at Cardiff Canton having closed to steam in September of 1962 whilst she was at Bath.
In March of 1965 " Evening Star " sustained severe front end damage following a collision whilst on shed at East Dock and was accordingly withdrawn and towed to Severn Tunnel Junction to await disposal at one of the South Wales breakers ' yards , but when private purchase and preservation was negotiated she was retained there before going to Crewe in 1967 for repairs and restoration .
