92222 1965-07-02 Gloucester Central
This was the last year of steam workings in the Gloucester area, and Severn Tunnel Junction shed was still open to steam with the freights working between South Wales and the Midllands frequently being handled by Standard 9F locomotives as depicted here , although other Midand and Western Region clases also made appearances . By the October of that year , 1965 , the number of such steam workings had tailed off considerably , and by the end of the year it was all over. 92222 is seen here running up from Wales at Gloucester Central on the through road on 2nd. July , 1965 with such a working and will probably take water from the column still in place at the far end of the station , as was often the custom. The notes taken at the time say Up coal from South Wales but it could be Iron Ore empties looking at the wagons.
