92223 1966-09 Patricroft

A Jim Carter undated photos. He never recorded any details with his negs but a bit of detective work is worthwhile and hopefully entertaining. 92223 had an interesting career, built as a a WR loco bouncing between sheds (7 in five years), it found itself serving as a Lickey Banker in November 1963, but was withdrawn from Bromsgrove shed by the WR in February 1964 at the tender age of Five ¾ years. If it had been scrapped it would have been the first of the class to go. However management saw the light and re-instated it to Tyseley in May 1964, although it was in Swindon for a Heavy Intermediate overhaul from May until Christmas Eve and here carries a 2A shedplate. There would have been no regular workings of 2A 9Fs to Patricroft so initial thought were this may either have been when it was ex works, or soon after its next move to Saltley in November 1966. It served nearly to the very end of steam working almost inevitably off Kingmoor then finally Carnforth until April 1968.

Mr JA Oldfield adds some useful information "this was taken just after 22.00hrs one night in Sept 1966 as I was also taking photo alongside Jim Carter.
The loco possibly worked 07.25 Stott Lane-Bushbury the following morning thereby returning her somwhere nearer home 2A."
