92205 1963 Saltley

92205 1963 Saltley

Double chimneyed 9F 2-10-0 No.92205 in the light from the coaling stage at Saltley, probably in 1963 when it was allocated to the Southern Region at Eastleigh. It has a strange looking arrangement of lamp irons, with one half-way down at each side of the smokebox. This was done on five 9Fs when they were transferred from the Western Region to accommodate SR route discs. No.92205 also had a standard BR bracket attached to the smokebox handrail, a legacy from 1960 when it worked over the SDJR, and used to fix the reporting number board. It has no upper lamp bracket, this being removed for safety reasons by November 1963, because it had been moved a few years earlier to the smokebox rim from the top of the smokebox door.
