Arrived on 1968-02-09 and was scrap metal by April - a real lost opportunity bordering on a crime!
Peter Kerslake says "Pioneer former L.M.S. diesel-electric had run last mile of its 16 ears in service, having officially been condemned in early February 1963 but not reaching Cashmores Great Bridge until January 1968.
In company with its classmate 10001 both desels had spent their last years in service from April 1955 until 1957 working the West Coast main line passenger services from Camden before moving to Willesden in November 1959, reviving memories of their earlier years when they worked on a regular basis between Euston and Carlisle.
Both locomotives had been sent to the Southern Region in March 1953 and were housed at Nine Elms working daily between Waterloo and Bournemouth but their time on Southern metals was plagued with failures and the pair were returned to Camden in March 1955.
10001 followed 10000 to the breakers' yards in March 1966, being broken up at Cox and Danks' Acton yards in February 1968."
