L&YR 831 1880s Sandhills MPD

Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Barton Wright '6ft. 0in.' class 4-4-0 No. 831. Built by Neilson & Co. of Glasgow in November 1883 and withdrawn in August 1904.

The elegant lines of a classic Victorian 4-4-0 are seen to good effect in this portrait of 831 at Sandhills (later Bank Hall) Engine Shed in Liverpool, a hundred and ten were built and a couple survived into LMS days.

To the left background is a LYR 'Tin Tab' break van complete with birdcage lookout making it the earlier design. I think the writing says 'luggage, guard, Sandhills and J.Dutton'- the regular Guards name.
