It took more than a little detective work to establish that this fine view was taken (circa 1907) at the eastern end of Wakefield Kirkgate Station. The subject is immaculate Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Barton Wright '6ft' class No.919. Her next call will be at Normanton and she will then be heading for Leeds or maybe diverging east at Altofts Junction and taking the lines to York. 919 was built by Vulcan Foundry in June 1887 and was withdrawn in February 1913. Note the gas powered station lamp with its paper label 'Wakefield'. I'm left wondering if we can still buy Price's Gas Engine Oil?
