Heading for Carmarthen with an Aberystwyth train.Machynlleth and its sub shed at Aberystwyth were home to a number of " Manors " from the early ' fifties as the need for more powerful locomotives on the passenger workings northwards to Shrewsbury and southwards to Carmarthen , as seen here , dictated withdrawal of the little " Dukedogs " so long associated with such workings in past years .7821 " Dicheat Manor " , in company with sister engine 7818 " Granville Manor " , had come to the Cambrian upon transfer from Birmingham's Tyseley Depot in 1956 , later to be joined by other members of the class which had worked between Plymouth and Newton Abbot on piloting turns until the invading Diesels ended such duties in the late ' fifties and early 'sixties. This view dates from the late days of the Cambrian " Manors " as they in turn were replaced by Standard Class designs including Class Four 4-6-0's for the last days of steam workings over the system.
