7821 1963-03-26 Dovey Junction

A cold frosty day but the sun has lit the CCE nicely. The white buffers and smokebox darts were a signature of the Machynlleth 89C Manors. There is a fine photo of a Manor in the booking office at Machynlleth Station.

It was Danny Rowlands, the Shedmaster at Aberystwyth together with his plentiful supplies of white paint, that maintained his "Manors" in such splendid condition, and it was here at Dovey Junction that the Paddington bound portions of the "Cambrian Coast Express" were joined, and 7821 will have worked in with the section from Aberystwyth.
The section starting from Pwllheli, which was due here at Dovey Junction slightly later, would be added to the front of the "Manor's" Aberystwyth portion, the locomotive from Pwllheli having come off here, and the "Manor" will head the combined train via Welshpool as far as Shrewsbury.
Built in 1950, 7821 "Ditcheat Manor" had served at Newton Abbot and Wolverhampton in her earlier years, and following her time here on the Cambrian network was sent to Wolverhampton's Oxley Depot before ending her days at Shrewsbury, one of the last eight of her class there which were sold to Woodhams at Barry for disposal in late 1965.
