62763 1950s York

62763 1950s York

Ex-LNER Gresley 'D49/2' class 4-4-0 No. 62763 'The Fitzwilliam'. Built at Darlington in September 1934 as LNER No. 359 and withdrawn in January 1961.
What a first class 1950s panorama this is of the southern end of York Station and its approaches. Above the rear of the train, we see York Minster, the flag is flying from the ex-NER HQ building. With three locomotives outside, one on standby duty, the old York Queen Street locomotive works is prominent. 62763 is making a purposeful departure as viewed from Holgate Road Bridge.
