62763 1950s York Holgate
The distinctive girder bridge at the south end of York Station is prominent in this 1950s view of Gresley 'D49/2' 'The Fitzwilliam' purposefully striding south with a 8-coach passenger train. The Holgate platforms on the right allowed race day trains to disgorge their passengers away from the main station, thus avoiding unnecessary congestion.
