62768 1948 York

This excellent 1948 panorama looking north captures the glory of York Station, the signal gantries still in situ, York Minster, the City Walls and the Queen Street sheds which incorporated the original Railway Museum. In a delightfully hybrid LNER/BR livery 'D49/4' No. 62768 'The Morpeth' takes centre stage. No. 62768 was the one re-built without outside cylinders and was involved in a three engine collision at Dragon Junction near Starbeck. Damage was substantial, and No. 62768 was withdrawn in November 1952.
