62731 1957-06-23 Whitby Town

A location that will be familiar with most enthusiasts and one which still sees steam on a regular basis is Whitby Town station. On Sunday 23rd June 1957, the RCTS 'Yorkshire Coast Railtour' had arrived from York via Bridlington, Filey and Ronin Hood's Bay, a most spectacular and scenic journey! Ex-LNER Gresley 'D49/1' 4-4-0 No. 62731 'Selkirkshire' is at the helm and alongside is BR Riddles 'Standard 4' 2-6-4 Tank No. 80117. Both classes survive in preservation, potentially allowing this scene to be recreated! 62731 was built at Darlington in Mar. 1929 as LNER No. 2756 and was withdrawn in Apr. 1959. 80117 was built at Brighton in May 1955 and survived until March 1966.
