60017 1955 Highdyke

In the summer of 1955, a southbound train nears Stoke Tunnel at Highdyke behind A4 No 60017 ‘Silver Fox’. Based at Kings Cross throughout its career since new in 1935, this engine had been through Works in October 1954 for a General overhaul. The chime whistle sits at an angle, having suffered a knock and is leaking steam as was so often the case with the A4s in BR days.
