4706 1959-11-28 West Ealing
47XX 2-8-0 No 4706 approaches West Ealing with a PW train loaded with rail panels on 28th November 1959.
Peter Kerslake adds "A fine overhead view of 4706 in 1959 when my records show that she was allocated to Bristol St. Philip's Marsh shed, having gone there from Plymouth's Laira Depot in July of 1953, thereby returning to Bristol following a much earlier period there in late 1952 following a move from Exeter Depot.
Plans to give these fine engines names were rejected by the Directors at Paddington, but in the early 'sixties the class began to be turned out from overhaul at Swindon in fully lined out green livery, and how splendid they looked, often rostered on a Summer Services Saturday passenger workings from Paddington to Plymouth, and being regular performers on the down Saturday "Royal Duchy".
4706 was condemned from Old Oak in February of 1964, being disposed of within Swindon's "C" Shop. "
