Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0 No. 62384 (pilot). Built at Gateshead in June 1907 as NER No. 1184 and withdrawn in August 1955. Ex-LNER Gresley 'D49' class 4-4-0 No. 62748 'The Southwold' (train). Built at Darlington in August 1933 as LNER No. 292 and withdrawn in December 1957.

Here's the stirring sight of a 'summer special' for Scarborough with two classic 4-4-0s double heading eastbound from York Station in July 1953. Although 25 years separate the building of Worsdell's 62384 and Gresley's 62748, the older locomotive is certainly doing its fair share of the work as befits a class that were once the pride of the North Eastern Railway.
