Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell 'R' (LNER 'D20') class 4-4-0 No. 62384. Built at Gateshead in June 1907 as NER No. 1184 and withdrawn in August 1955.

One place in Darlington that was on the 'must visit' list of any enthusiast was the North Road scrapyard. Scenes such as this had been witnessed by generations of 'spotters' hoping to see a previously elusive locomotive before it was reduced to scrap. 62384 had only been withdrawn the previous month when photographed in September 1955. Note that today's valuable railwayana trophies of shed, number and worksplates have not been 'liberated'!
