St Helena is rolling in from the Manchester line. Note the gas tank in the headshunt, it is vacuum braked with through steam heating pipe for use in passenger trains. In the distance it looks like there is track renewal taking place on the Chester lines so it is probably a Sunday. Who would have thought the Crewe North signal box, visible above the train, would be part of a railway museum nearly 70 years later, it still has fine views over the station.
