Ex-LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No. 45623 'Palestine'. Built at Crewe in October 1934 as LMS No. 5623 and withdrawn in July 1964.

Factory Lane crosses under the railway and is approximately half a mile north of Skew Bridge SB (seen to the left in this image). The photographer is close to the abutments of Skew Bridge, which carries Leyland Road over the railway at this point.

A grubby 'Palestine' is making good progress with a train for Liverpool at Lower Penwortham, just south of Preston in April 1962.
