1010 1954c Plymouth
Laira's 1010, " County of Caernarvon " has worked into platform seven at Plymouth North Road from Penzance with the Paddington bound prestigious " Cornish Riviera" and her fireman is about to uncouple from the leading coach in order for his steed to run as a light engine out to its home shed...he's already changed the lamp on the front buffer beam. The date is in or about 1954 . There will be a " King " waiting over on platform eight with the strengthening coaches ready to bring them over to take this train onwards to Paddington. Much favoured for these workings the West of Engand " County " class engines were well liked, often substituting for a " Castle " , but were later replaced on such duties by the newly allocated members of the " Britannia " class allocated to Laira.
