WCR Diesel Railcar 1954-06-17 Kilkee

WCR Diesel Railcar 1954-06-17 Kilkee

Kilkee Station in Co. Clare, Eire is the scene in June 1954. The West Clare Railway was part of CIE by the 1950s and this diesel railcar was one of four built in 1952 by the relatively obscure company of Walker Bros. in (of all places!) Wigan. Thy were all withdrawn in 1961 on closure of the Railway that had been formed in 1887. The preservation of Moyasta station and 5 km (3.1 mi) of track bed in the 1990s, has seen the WCR modestly resurrected with both diesel and steam in their small fleet.
n.b. Apologies for any errors in this description. Irish railways are not my strong point but I have tried to provide correct details where known!
