7029 1965-05-29 Gloucester loop line

Peter Kerslake says; " With my pal David Alden on the footplate 7029 heads along the Gloucester avoiding line at the head of the Saturday 12:45 p.m. from Gloucester Central to Swindon on Saturday, 29th. May, 1965. 7029 had been specially rostered for this working on this day as " Flying Scotsman " was also visiting Swindon on the "East Midlander" special. This Saturday working was a regular "Castle " duty during the final days of the few remaining Gloucester examples of the class, with a return working from Swindon at 5:30. p.m. , the engine having been turned and watered in a Works siding adjacent to Swindon station, the Swindon shed having already closed to steam. Still in BR ownership at this date 7029 had appeared on a number of Steam Specials and was also being used on freight duties in the Gloucester area."
