5054 5063 4099 1956-05-20 Laira

A trio of ‘Castles‘ on shed at Laira on Whitsun Sunday 20th May 1956 with a fourth one in the background as well! Devonport's Navy Days had been held early that year, over this weekend, rather than in the usual August, and Cardiff Canton's No.5054 Earl of Ducie in the foreground had come down on a Navy Day Special from Wales, and Penzance allocated No.4099 Kilgerran Castle had come up from Cornwall on a similar additional working. Bristol Bath Road's No.5063, Earl Baldwin is on the centre road. A fitter is attending to No.5054 which seemed to have a problem with its inside valve gear.
