A Sunday at Laira as Earl of Clancarty with its smokebox door ajar is moved into the running shed for attention from the fitters by Pannier 4693. 5058 was one of Laira's most reliable Castles in this period.
My Sunday picture of our own 5058 , " Earl of Clancarty " shows how clean the area here was , at the rear of the coaling shed, visible on the left , and in such contrast to the other side with its usual piles of ash cleared from locomotive smokeboxes as they awaited coaling .
There's a coal wagon on the ramp leading up into the coaling shed whilst those on the exteme right are at the side of the coal store .
One of our best , 5058 had been a Westcountry engine for most of its working life before , like so many other former Westcountry " Castles " , it ended its days at Gloucester Horton Road , from where it was withdrawn in March of 1963.
