9004 1957-09-27 Craven Arms

9004 1957-09-27 Craven Arms

GWR Dukedog 4-4-0 No 9004 at Craven Arms shed on September 27, 1957.
Peter Kerslake says "Craven Arms did not have any "Dukedogs" on its allocation, and 9004 was there purely for seasonal storage. Originally numbered 3204 and built at Swindon in August 1936 from the frames of 'Bulldog' 3439 married to the boiler and cab from 'Duke' 3271, 3204 was originally named Earl of Dartmouth but those members of the class which bore "Earl" nameplates had them removed in July 1937 and from 3212 no more members of the class were named.
9004 was condemned from Croes Newydd in June 1960 just four months before the last two of the class, namely 9017 and 9014. were withdrawn in October 1960."
