9004 1955-06-30 Shrewsbury

Dukedog 4-4-0 No 9004 about to depart from Shrewsbury with the down 'Cambrian Coast Express' on June 30, 1955.

Peter Kerslake says "Originally numbered 3204 and built in August 1936 using the frames from "Bulldog" 3439 and boiler, cab and fittings from "Duke" 3271 the engine had "Earl of Dartmouth" nameplates until 1937"
The "Dukedogs" have yet to give way to the "Manors" on the "Cambrian Coast Express" in 1955 and 9004 sets off homeward bound for Aberystwyth from here at Shrewsbury on the 30th. June, 1955.
Built in August of 1936 using the frames from 3429 "Eddystone" and boiler and fittings from 3429 "Weston Super Mare" 9004 spent all its 24 years on the Cambrian network housed at Machynlleth
The "Cambrian" needed to reverse in both directions here at Shrewsbury and 9004 would have replaced the usual "King" which had worked the service down from Paddington."
