Three of the two-car Metro-Cammell ‘Lightweight’ diesel multiple units, newly built at the nearby Washwood Heath factory, arriving at Castle Bromwich in April 1956 on a special working to the British Industries Fair. 29 of these units went to East Anglia and another seven sets were used by the London Midland Region on the Bury-Bacup line. The three pictured here had Eastern Region numbers and were no doubt being used to help promote the manufacturer during the Trade Fair.
