The new Derby ‘Lightweight’ DMU waiting to depart from Platform 4 to Four Oaks, a suburb just north of Sutton Coldfield, is attracting lots of attention from the platform. Prior to the 5th March 1956 when regular interval New Street -Four Oaks- Lichfield City diesel services started, an inaugural return trip was made on 28th February by a party composed of representatives of the civic and business communities of Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, and Lichfield, and it is likely that this picture was taken on that day.
