1466 1950s Churston In the Brixham bay
The footplate crew of little 1466 have found a conveniently placed porters' trolley here at Churston , but the branch signal has been cleared for their run down to Brixham so perhaps their break is nearly over and it's nearly departure time.
1466 will run bunker first down the branch , and its Auto Train equipment is housed in the little box seen on the bufferbeam , the original batch of seventy five of the class introduced in 1932 all having been so fitted from new by Swindon , enabling them to work " Push and Pull " services on the various branch line passenger duties for which Mr . Collett had designed them .
Numbered from 4800 to 4874 from new in 1932 this initial batch were later renumbered from 1400 to 1474 in 1946 when their earlier numbers were transferred to a series of " 2800 " tender engines which had been converted to oil burning following the shortage of coal in the post the war years .
Happily 1466 ws one of just four of her class surviving into preservation .
