Oswestry Shed 1965

Oswestry Shed 1965

Closed on 23 January 1965 and the tracks soon lifted strangely the works was still open until 1966. Peter Kerslake says "What a sad contrast to the photograph at Oswestry Depot on the previous page, just five years separating the two images.
Work carried out by British Railways in its early days is evident by the fine condition of the roof of both the original Oswestry & Newtown Railway four-road facility on the left in adddition to that of its newer but smaller addition on the right, added by the Cambrian Railways.
The four water columns stand forelornly isolated with virtually all the trackwork having been lifted, a site so familiar in the last weeks of Western Region steam in late 1965 when it all came to an end".
